A BRIEF HISTORY OF HIS EMINENCE THE GOSHIR GYALTSABPA

His Eminence the Goshir Gyaltsab Rinpoche and his line, whose name and fame has spread all over the world, has been appointed as a vajra Regent by His Holiness the Gyalwa Karmapa, the lord of all Buddhas, to preserve and propagate the Kagyu lineage.
In general, His Eminence is the emanation of Vajrapani, the compiler of all vajrayana teachings. During the time when Buddha Sakyamuni came on this earth to give us the holy sermon, His Eminence was prophesied to be the greatest of all learned hearers of the Dharma, and he incarnated as Arya Anand, one of the eight main followers of Lord Buddha, and he compiled the Sutra Pitak, in which the main teachings of meditation have been explained. He was the first to help in the establishment and protection of Lord Buddha's teaching on this earth. In particular,
when the Protectors of the three races (Rigsum Gonpo) first brought the teachings of Lord Buddha to Tibet, His Eminence had incarnated as Gar Tong Tsen, the holder of wisdom, who was the chief privy council of the great king Song Tsen Gampo, and when he was sent to receive the emanations of the white and green Tara, the two princesses Gyalsay Konjo and Belsa Tritsun from China and Nepal, he brought the holy images of Buddha Sakyamuni and Jowo Mingyur Dorje to Tibet for the benefit and well-being of the country and its people. Consequently, the Buddha Dharma has shine forth like the sun in the whole land of Tibet.

His Eminence's emanation went forth as Khar Chen Palgi Wangchuk, who was one of the twenty five disciples of Guru Padmasambhawa, and during the time of Tibet's crown yogi, Jetsun Milerapa, His Eminence manifested as a great spiritual son known as Repa Shiwa Wod.
The sixth Karmapa Thongwa Dhonden has also unmistakably recognized and identified him to be the emanation of the above mentioned holy beings and blessed with the name Paljor Dhondrub the first Gyaltsabpa. His Eminence then received the general and extraordinary initiations, transmissions and teachings of different schools, and became a master in all of them and specially called the prince of the Kagyu Lineage of Vajradhara's kingdom. He later became a perfect master of the new and old school of Tibetan Buddhism. So Goshir Paljor Dhondup was installed and appointed as regent and spiritual son by His Holiness The Gyalwa Karmapa, and since Gyaltsabpas were became the successive regent of Karmapa.

The Gyaltsabpas come on this earth, sometime as teachers and at other times as disciple of the Gyalwa Karmapa, to perform Dharma activities such as to build new monasteries, construct centres of learning and retreat centres for meditations and other vast fields for the benefit of countless sentient beings.
Moreover, during the Mahaparinirvana of His Holiness the Gyalwa Karmapa, the Gyaltsabpa's main work and Dharma activities are to perform prayers and make offerings for the swift finding of His Holiness's next reincarnation, to look after and assist the remaining followers and to enthrone the young reincarnated Holiness on His holy fearless golden Throne . To offer and teach His Holiness the ordination of Pritimoksha and Boddhisattva vows and finally to transmit all the precious lineage's profound initiations and transmissions of the doctrines.

They teach and expound the profound texts of sutras and tantras, Naropa's unique resource of the six doctrines or yoga of Dharma, the path of liberation through Mahamudra and so forth. In this way, the Gyaltsabpas teach and offer the deep and profound Dharma of the Golden Rosary of the Kagyu Lineage, thus they satisfy and fulfil the sacred wishes and aspirations of His Holiness The Gyalwa Karmapas.
Wonderfully, during the lives of each Gyaltsabpa their chief spiritual teacher and presiding deity appear personally to them and make prophesies as well.

The Gyaltsabpas were installed as master of Dharma and holder of hidden treasures by the great treasure-revealer Rigzin Jetsun Nyingpo and others. The Chinese Emperor Ta Ming Ching Thung offered the honorable Title of Goshir (Lord of Dharma) to the first Gyaltsabpa, signifying his kind activities and vast knowledge, together with a golden seal. The first Gyaltsabpa was thus honored and respected by all walks of live during the time. So His Eminence's broad learning and high qualities are inconceivable.

During a crucial and unfortunate time, when a war waged by Mongolia on the Tsang or central province of Tibet in 1641 and destroyed and dismantled all the Kagyu monasteries, including Tsurphu Monastery, the main seat of all the Karmapas, which made the tenth Karmapa to flee from Tsurphu to Jang Sa-Tham.
So during that sad period it was fifth Gyaltsabpa Dakpa Chokyang, who revived and reconstructed all the monasteries and helped the Kagyu tradition and lineage to survive and glow as before once again for the benefit of countless beings.
In this way all the successive Gyaltsabpa had always been compassionately serving the Buddha Dharma in general and Kagyu lineage in particular till today, where the Buddha Dharma is more demanding and needs of the whole world.

Young 12th Gyltsab Rinpoche

As such, the present twelfth Gyaltsab Rinpoche, was also identified and recognized by His Holiness The sixteenth Gyalwa Karmapa Rangjung Rigpai Dorje in 1954, the year of wood horse with all the wonderful signs of a holy being. Then, at the age of four in the year of Fire Bird (1958) on the full moon of sixth Tsurphu month, His Holiness The XVIth Gyalwa Karmapa cut the crest of hair of His Eminence, just as the sun was coincidentally rising at the summit of eastern mountain, and His Holi-
ness stated-"This is a wonderful and auspicious sign".

So after much rejoicing and cheerful talk and play, His Holiness blessed and bestowed him with vajra name: Gyaltsab Karma Dakpa Tenpa Yarphel Mingyur Gocha Thinley Kunkhyab Pal Sangpo and grant the ordination and precepts of an Upasaka. Thereafter, on the 22nd of the same month His Holiness The Gyalwa Karmapa formally enthroned at his Lion Dharma Throne and crowned the Golden Red Crown with prayers of benediction, vast offerings and blessings. The grand event of enthronement was organized and honored by different organizations, associations and committees of monasteries, and was graced by the presence of many distinguished guest and vast gathering of people from every corner.

Consequently, His Eminence sought and obtained all the sacred initiations, instructions and transmissions of the Kagyu Lineage in general, and specifically the Kamtsang Kagyu in particular from His Holiness Rangjung Rigpai Dorje like emptying a full profuse vase into another. He also approached to many other great masters of different schools of Buddhism. Thus His Eminence the 12th Gyaltsab Rinpoche is a perfect living master who spend all his time in meditation and study of Buddhist scriptures and never involved in any kind of worldly pleasures.

Having being one of the spiritual son and regent of His Holiness The Karmapa, His Eminence always think of Karmapa and after Mahaparinirvana of sixteenth Karmapa, His Eminence has starting from performing various prayers for the swift rebirth, searching and relocating the 17th Karmapa, Gyaltsab Rinpoche is totally involved day and night in all the concerned matters and dedicated all his time and efforts in the service of His Holiness, for which the whole followers of His Holiness around the world and specially the people of Sikkim are the true witness for such dedication, deep concern and services.
Matter of fact, after finding His Holiness The 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje, with the proper seal of approval by H.H.The Dalai Lama and genuine prediction letter left by 16th Karmapa, His Holiness The 17th Karmapa was enthroned at His
main seat in Tibet Tsurphu Monastery by His Eminences Tai Situ Rinpoche and Gyaltsab Rinpoche. His Eminence Gyaltsab Rinpoche also had offered many initiations and transmissions of important Karma Kagyu lineage to His Holiness the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje.
